
HOUSE RESOLUTION 17
(By Delegates Modesitt, Anderson, Azinger, Beane and Border)
Commemorating the life and public service of J. Fred Earley,
former member of the House of Delegates from Wood County.



Whereas, J. Fred Earley was born on March 20, 1925 in
Parkersburg, West Virginia; and



Whereas, Mr. Earley was educated in the public schools of
Wood County, attended the U.S. Naval Academy and graduated from
the University of Notre Dame in 1948 with a juris doctor degree;
and



Whereas, J. Fred Earley was married in 1954 to Lois Eileen
McAtee and was the father of 10 children -- Barbara, Susie,
Caroline, Amy, Sarah, J. Fred Earley II, Patrick, Matt, David and
Michael, and was blessed with 24 grandchildren; and



Whereas, Mr. Earley's football talents as a running back and
placekicker brought him All-State honors twice in high school and
earned him letters three years at Notre Dame, he would later
serve as a broadcaster of Big Red games on Parkersburg radio and
was recently inducted into the Mid-Ohio Valley Sports Hall of
Fame; and



Whereas, J. Fred Earley practiced as an attorney for over 50
years, including serving as City Attorney for Parkersburg and Municipal Judge; and



Whereas, Delegate J. Fred Earley took his seat in this
chamber in 1951 where he served with dignity and grace; and



Whereas, J. Fred Earley passed away on May 9th, 1999, and
will be missed by the community he served and loved; therefore,
be it



Resolved by the House of Delegates:



That the members of this body express regret and sorrow at
the passing of J. Fred Earley, devoted husband, father and public
servant; and, be it



Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates
is hereby directed to prepare copies of this resolution for
presentation to the family of J. Fred Earley.
